About Luay Alshara, M.D.
Dr. Luay Alshara is a triple fellowship-trained Endourologist and Robotic Surgeon, who servces as an Associate Professor of Urology at Weill Cornell Medicine and Associate Attending Urology at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. He brings years of expertise from his time as a faculty member at Albany Medical College, where he practiced in the New York Capital Region.Dr. Alshara completed his advanced fellowship training in Endourology at Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute at the Cleveland Clinic. He also completed extensive fellowship training in Robotic Surgery at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center – Tufts University in Boston and Jackson Health System in Miami.
Dr. Alshara is an expert in complex kidney stone surgeries, including various techniques for PCNL (Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy) tailored to the complexity of each patient, ECIRS (Endoscopic Combined Intrarenal Surgery), mini-PCNL, RIRS (Retrograde Intra-Renal Surgery) and robotic assisted stone removal. He also specializes in reconstructive robotic procedures for conditions like ureteral stricture disease and UPJ (ureteropelvic junction) obstruction. Dr. Alshara is an expert in management of large prostate glands, focusing on robotic-assisted prostate surgery and Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP).
